What do we do on a Wednesday
afternoon when Alec doesn't have
school?; hook up with Tonya and
her two boys, David and Christopher
who live in Metz and hit the road.
We drove through the countryside
about 45 minutes until we arrived
at the tiny fortified village of Rodemack.
Located in the heart of the Three Frontiers,
Luxembourg, Germany and France, a
700 metre long city wall greeted us.
I don't think I will ever tire of walking
Walking through a passage built in
the ramparts we entered a replica of
the Medieval garden, a lovely oasis
taking us back in time.
After the locals work hard in the garden
they can always bring the fruit of
their work to the communal distillery;
the US of A could do with some of these.
Travelling with non-Catholics is fun,
especially when entering churches.
Even this little chapel spooked this
cradle Catholic.....
Uh, well, there is a tradition
in the Catholic Church of
dressing the infant Jesus
and the virgin Mary....but I
must admit, this is the first
time I have seen wigs.....
Jesus looked a bit like
a hippy from the 60's
Of course we explained the confessional to Tonya and her
boys......
Seeing one of Alec's aspiration is to be Pope this
was rather fitting. Alec told Tonya that you always
get "five hail marys" as a penance!
The weather cooperated with blue skies. We drove
home through fields of blooming rapeseed which is
pressed into canola oil and also used in animal feed
and bio-diesel production.
No wonder Van Gogh loved painting in France.
A lovely afternoon spent with friends.

I don't think I will ever tire of walking
around a medieval village.
Perhaps this village receives visitors in the summer months
but we were the only people walking around
her cobbled streets.
Unfortunately the Citadel, which was built on the
foundations of a medieval castle was closed, only
open on the weekend.
